She’ll be Coming Round the Mountain
Starting at $1
The song we know today is a derivation of a song of unknown origins entitled “When the Chariot comes”. This song is about the second coming of Jesus Christ who is imagined to be riding in a chariot. To help pass the time, railroad workers in the 1890’s sang the song in its modern day form in a call and response fashion. The leader would sing “she’ll be comin’ around the mountain when she comes” and the response would be “when she comes” which appropriately fills the empty space of the main melody. A song with many stylistic options today, the O-Music version is just one interpretation of this wonderfully diverse song.
> Which Level is Right for Me?
One of the more challenging melodies that Opian offers, the student must constantly “lock in” to the rhythm of the “coming around the mountain” part. That being said, levels one and two are designed to be lighter on the harmonies due to the fast paced nature of the song. Level three holds nothing back and is marked by catchy bluegrass fills that complete a song that is great fun to practice.
